Sir Jimmy Batilo Songa, National Chairman of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), has been named Energy Investments Ambassador by Hon. Dr. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella (KKY), Chairman of the Presidential Initiative on Climate Change, Renewable Energy and Food Security (PI-CREFS) and the government’s Energy Sector Lead.
The announcement was made on the sidelines of the Climate Resilience and Energy Transition Dialogue (CRET 2025), held at the Bintumani International Conference Center in Freetown. The event convened policymakers, development partners, and energy stakeholders to accelerate Sierra Leone’s renewable energy transition and climate resilience goals.
Dr. Yumkella praised Chairman Songa for his grassroots leadership and commitment to sustainable development. “This appointment reflects the growing synergy between political leadership and our national energy transformation vision,” he said.
Chairman Songa expressed appreciation for the recognition and pledged to continue advocating for energy awareness and investment. “Access to affordable energy is central to the country’s broader goals of economic empowerment and environmental sustainability,” he said.
The CRET 2025 event also saw the attendance of several SLPP district chairmen and senior party officials, signalling party-wide support for Sierra Leone’s energy and climate action strategy.
The appointment comes one day after the official handover ceremony in which outgoing SLPP Chairman Dr. Prince Alex Harding transferred leadership to Sir Jimmy Batilo Songa. The event marked a key moment in the party’s leadership and strategic direction.
Chairman Songa’s new role is expected to bolster the alignment of political advocacy with the government’s energy agenda. His appointment further strengthens the SLPP’s contribution to national efforts in renewable energy and sustainable development.
