President Bio Briefs His Peers And Receives Huge Praises And Commendations!
His Excellency Brig (Rtd) Dr. Julius Maada Bio has on Saturday 5th February 2022 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, received huge praises and commendation from his peers and colleague Heads of State & Government of the Committee of Ten on United Nations Security Council Reform (C-10 ) of the African Union (AU) on the United Nations Security Council Reform (UNSC).
President Bio received praises and commendations from his peers and colleagues during the briefing session at the 35th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union from Saturday, 5th to Sunday, 6th February 2022.
At the onset of his briefing, President Julius Maada Bio took the opportunity to thank his dear brother and colleague, His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of Uganda, for graciously consenting to host the Ninth Ministerial Consultation held from 19th to 20th January 2022 in Kampala.
After that, the Coordinator of C-10, His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio, highlighted the aims and objectives of the Kampala Ministerial meeting and recommendations made by the Foreign Ministers. His Excellency Dr. Julius Maada Bio promised that he would present the Report of the Committee of Ten on the Reform of the Security Council to the Plenary of the Assembly of the African Union on Sunday 6th February 2022.
The submission of the Report of the C-10 Coordinator and President of Sierra Leone was according to the African Union Summit Decision taken during the 33rd Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the Union held from 9th to 10th February 2020 in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa.
President added the Committee of Ten Heads of States and Government on the Reform of the United Nations Security Council continued to strengthen its engagement with other interest groups and key stakeholders. These include the Five Permanent members (P5) of the United Nations Security Council. President Bio argued was to advance the Common African Position on the reform of the UNSC.
As a result, the AU Assembly encouraged the C-10 to continue holding its high-level and outreach meetings to intensify further efforts to promote and canvass the Common African Position on the Reform of the UNSC, the highly commended C-10 Coordinator Julius Maada Bio opined.
President Bio concluded his briefing by commending and thanking the Sierra Leone Permanent Representatives and their teams in Addis Ababa and New York for their hard work and commitments.
Representatives of other Heads of State and Government in the C-10 conveyed hearty messages of praises and commendations to President Bio from their various Heads of State. The representatives praised President Bio for his great caliber, unwavering commitment, and excellent leadership as Chair or Coordinator of the continental Committee.
They all pledged their continued support and cooperation as members of the Committee. Perhaps it was as a result of that common pledge that motivated the Republic of Congo to follow the footstep of the Republic of Uganda and volunteered to host the next Summit or meeting of the Committee for which President Julius Maada Bio was highly delighted and thanked his brother and friend, the President of the Republic of Congo.
The tireless and eloquent Foreign Minister Professor David Francis, who many believe has changed the face of Sierra Leone Foreign Ministry and Diplomacy for much better, gave the vote of thanks at the briefing. The learned academic guru associated himself with his President Dr. Julius Maada Bio and thanked the Sierra Leone Missions in Addis Ababa and New York led by Excellencies Adekunle King and Fanday Turay, respectively, for a job well done in the area of C-10.
Meanwhile, the scramble for bilateral meetings with the increasingly popular President Julius Maada Bio Internationally on the margins of the ongoing 35th Ordinary Session of the AU Assembly has been enormous and the Sierra Leone Embassy in Addis Ababa has been inundated with huge piles of Note Verbals from other Embassies and International Organizations.
Among countries whose Heads of State have requested bilateral meetings with the Sierra Leone President is the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, the host nation of the African Union headquarters. Shortly after his C-10 briefing, President Bio was warmly received by the Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Abyi Ahmed (Ph.D.).
The two leaders held a closed-door meeting and came out with their hands wrapped on each other with huge smiles. Another Head of State that was fortunate to enjoy an audience with President Julius Maada Bio was the President of Somalia. Like the Ethiopian, the meeting involving the Somali leader and that of Sierra Leone was a closed door.
