President Bio Visits Cashew Farm, Leads Maize Harvest in Moyamba

Tiama, Moyamba — October 10, 2025

President Bio visits his 1,000-acre cashew farm and leads a symbolic maize harvest in Moyamba, reinforcing the Feed Salone campaign’s mission to create jobs, boost youth agribusiness, and build national food security.

  • 1,000-acre farm in Bo now employs 150 Sierra Leoneans
  • 60-hectare maize harvest led in Moyamba with youth farmer Sherilyn Cowan
  • Feed Salone initiative promoted as a tool for food security and job creation
  • Visits also included a military farm and a seed site under national food programs

🪴 Leadership in Action

President Julius Maada Bio toured his cashew farm in Bo District as part of his national agricultural review. He described the site as a model of “leadership by example,” showcasing how farming can drive development under the Feed Salone vision.

After the Bo tour, he joined a maize harvest on a 60-hectare field in Moyamba led by youth farmer Sherilyn Cowan. The farm was developed with support from the AfDB-funded Rice Value Chain project via the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.

👩🏾‍🌾 Youth in Agribusiness

President Bio praised Cowan’s innovation and noted her work aligns with the government’s focus on youth-led agribusiness and inclusive development. Cowan thanked the President for reviving farming and opening new doors for young entrepreneurs in agriculture.

🌱 Feed Salone Momentum Grows

Following the events, President Bio visited a military farm supported by the Food System Resilience Programme (FSRP) and a seed multiplication site. He called on farmers and communities to unite under Feed Salone and advance food self-sufficiency nationwide.

Local leaders, government officials, and community members joined the event, celebrating farming as the future of Sierra Leone’s economy.
