Scout Council Decorates Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio with Messenger of Peace Award, Presents Newly Elected Chief Scout

Presidential Lodge, Freetown, Thursday 6 April 2021 – Minister of Social Welfare, Baindu Dassama Kamara, a patron of the Sierra Leone Scout Association, has presented Haja Salamatu Fulamatu Dumbuya to His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio as the first female elected chief scout of the Sierra Leone Scout Association.

Chairman of the Scout Council, Sheikh Fomba Swaray, said Sierra Leone was blessed to have had the association launched in December 1907 by the late former Governor-General Lightfoot Boston.

Minister of Tourism Madam Memunatu Pratt, who conferred on President Bio as patron of the Sierra Leone Scout Association, also presented him with a ‘Messenger of Peace Award’ from the Chairman of the World Scout Association with the citation: “…because of your continued work to change the world and make it a better place for all people you have formally bestowed the honour of being a messenger of peace.”

Madam Pratt also commended the Sierra Leone SLCA for their continued support to the country, stating that they had been very supportive of cleaning beaches and social mobilisation in communities.

In his short response to the gathering, President Bio said that he was happy to be part of the event and commended them for choosing scouting as their vocation. He thanked them for their support to the country while pledging his government’s support to the association.
