SLPP Leaders Meet at Unity House, Call for Unity Ahead of 2028
Freetown, March 17, 2026 — Senior members of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) met at the party’s headquarters, Unity House, on Tuesday to discuss unity, reconciliation, and the party’s direction ahead of the 2028 elections.
National Chairman Sir Jimmy Batilo Songa hosted Dr. Abass Chernor Bundu, former Speaker of Parliament and former SLPP Regional Chairman for the North, and Mansa Alhaji Kanja Sesay, former Minister of Energy and former Regional Chairman for the South.
The meeting focused on strengthening internal unity and maintaining party cohesion. Both Bundu and Sesay congratulated Songa on his recent election victory and urged the party’s leadership to stay united and focused on its long-term goals.
They emphasized the need for discipline and cooperation among party members as the SLPP works to consolidate its position and prepare for future elections.
Bundu and Sesay, who previously led the party in the North and South, played key roles in building grassroots support and maintaining party structures during earlier political periods. Their joint appearance at Unity House signaled an effort to bridge regional divides and reinforce the party’s national identity.
Songa thanked the two leaders for their visit and recognized their contributions during the party’s time in opposition, as well as their role in the SLPP’s return to power in 2018 under President Julius Maada Bio.
Supporters and party members gathered at Unity House during the visit, creating a lively atmosphere as they welcomed the former regional chairmen. The event highlighted ongoing engagement between senior leaders and grassroots supporters.
At the end of the meeting, Bundu and Sesay expressed confidence in the party’s leadership and its direction moving forward.
The SLPP leadership says it will continue to focus on unity, discipline, and public engagement as it prepares for the next electoral cycle.
