Mamie Isata Sowa Funeral Update

The late Mamie Isata Sowa, commonly known as Miss Iso, former Women’s Leader Sierra Leone Peoples Party in the United States of America (SLPPNA), former Teacher of the Prince of Wales School and other Public Schools in Philadelphia and Minnesota, USA passed away in Freetown on Sunday, February 3, 2019.

Mamie Isata Sowa was the daughter of the late Paramount Chief Alhaji Sidie Brima Sowa & Mrs. Marie Gina Sowa of Bandajuma, Sowa Chiefdom, Pujehun District.

Mamie Isata Sowa is survived by her daughter, Emilia Smith (nee Davies-Venn), son-in-law William Bouku Smith, and her brother, Suaibu Sowa, Chairman Pujehun District Council. Cherished grandmother of Denise Smith and Willo Smith. Predeceased by her brothers, Saidu Sowa and Ishmael Sowa.

Mamie Isata had a host of friends in Sierra Leone, United States, and the United Kingdom. She was very active in the SLPP, Tegloma Federation, All Nations Christian Assembly Minnesota, and the Sierra Leonean communities in Minnesota and Pennsylvania.

The remains of Mamie Isata Sowa will lie in state at the SLPP Party Headquarters in Freetown on Thursday, February 28, 2019, at 12noon. There will be a Wake Keeping in the evening at No. 4 Kolleh Drive off Milton Margai Campus Road, Goderich starting at 8pm.

Funeral Service for the late Mamie Isata Sowa will be held at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Freetown on Friday, March 1, 2019 at 10am.

Vigil and Wake Keeping for the late Mamie Isata Sowa will be held in Bandajuma Sowa on Friday, March 1, 2019, at 8 pm.

Mamie Isata Sowa will be laid to rest in her ancestral home, Bandajuma, Sowa Chiefdom, Pujehun District on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at 3 pm.
