The newly elected National Chairman of the Sierra Leone People’s Party has inaugurated North America’s Executive and unified members of the region recently in New Jersey.

Jimmy Batilo Songa, the new national Chairman, has inaugurated the executive of one of the strongest diasporas of SLPP communities worldwide.

In his speech, Jimmy Batilo Songa, the SLPP chairman, said it was a joy to stand with the North America SLPP executive but to celebrate the bond that unites them. “Our solidarity, our shared commitment, and our love for the Sierra Leone People’s Party and the land that we love, Sierra Leone,” Chairman Jimmy Batilo Songa said.

Chairman Songa reiterated that the heart of the great SLPP party lies in a simple truth: One Country, One People. “That truth reminds us that no matter where we are in Sierra Leone or America, we are one family. And when we come together as a family, our strength multiplies,” Chairman Songa said.

Chairman Songa charged the new executive, saying, “This is your opportunity. Your role is to connect people, ensuring that every member feels heard and valued. Work to strengthen this region as a vital pillar of the party. You are not here to hold titles; you are here to support and uplift the members,” Chairman Songa said.

He further urged the new executive to work closely with one another and collaborate effectively with the National Executive. “Our party is strongest when we pull in the same direction. Disunity weakens us. Your success here in North America must always be linked to the collective success of the SLPP at home and abroad,” Chairman Songa said.

Chairman Songa praised Desmond Pessima, the chairman of SLPP North America, and called him an ‘exceptional leader.’ He said Pessima and his team have worked tirelessly to strengthen the North American region.

The Chairman said that they must recognize that they stand on a proud legacy. “From Sir Milton Margai, who led Sierra Leone to independence, to each generation of SLPP leaders, we have continued to carry the torch of democracy, justice, and development.  Today, under the leadership of His Excellency President Maada Bio, the flame is burning brighter than ever,” Chairman Songa said.

Chairman Songa reiterated the good works of President Bio, citing the Free Quality School Education, advances in governance, healthcare, technology, women’s empowerment, and infrastructure. “They are bold strides that reflect the SLPP’s vision for Sierra Leone’s future,” Chairman Songa said.

He said their work was not yet complete, that they look forward to 2028 and beyond. Victory, he said, will not happen by chance; it will require unity, discipline, and solidarity.

“To secure another victory in 2028, we must put aside egos, factions, and divided loyalties. Every member’s loyalty must be with President Bio and the Sierra Leone People’s Party. No individual is more important than the party, and no one is bigger than our shared mission. By serving diligently and selflessly, we will achieve another victory.

Desmond Pessima thanked the gathering and promised to work hard on uniting North America.
